Berwick Festival Opera: Carmen Nights

Selected dates from Fri 15 Nov 2019 to Sat 16 Nov 2019

20:00

An irresistibly intimate performance in the Studio to raise the temperature on a chill November evening - an evening of glorious music and storytelling bringing George Bizet’s operatic masterpiece to life.

The powerful fusion of passion and tragedy in this scandalous story of the legendary Bad Girl has been our most requested opera. Our very own version is told from the bittersweet perspective of Colonel Morales as he reminisces about the part he played in it years before as a lowly corporal. Our elderly narrator has since risen to the highest rank in the Guardia Civil (complete with the famous tri-corn hat), and wistfully reflects on his life and the lessons from Carmen’s unforgettable tale that he took to heart as a young man...

Euan McIver keeps us all in order in his own inimitable style as Morales, and The Maltings’ Steinway grand piano provides the crystal clear musical accompaniment. Our semi-staged production, sung in the original French, includes every magical much-loved aria including Habanera, Seguidilla, and Toreador Song.
